We’ve both traveled a bit but some places we just know we’ll never get to so we are “traveling” there in different ways.

New movie: The Look of Silence
Barbara: I thought I’d get a glimpse into the 1965 genocide of Indonesian people by watching Joshua Oppenheimer’s powerful companion piece to the Oscar®-nominated The Act of Killing in which a family of survivors discovers how their son was murdered, as well as the identities of the killers.
From the first scene it was a horrible thing to witness how callous one of the perpetrators was when he laughingly described how he sadistically killed someone. People were labeled as communists indiscriminately and the government even had the audacity to say that they (the so-called communists) wanted to be killed and came to them to say they wanted to be killed. Not too long into the film it was too hard to take as they were so very graphic in their descriptions. I think I’ll try to watch a more recent film about Indonesia so I can learn about the country as it is today and pray they’ve learned – not to forget – but to get past this awful part of their history.
Attempted new restaurant: BALI STREET CAFÉ
We grabbed our friend, Lee, and headed off to try Indonesian food. But best laid plans often go awry and that was the case with this outing. The restaurant was over 40 minutes away, we’ve heard that Indonesian food is very spicy, and the tollway was stop and go even though it was a Saturday. We decided to abort but the good news was on the way home we found a J restaurant.
New restaurant: J ALEXANDER
Lee recommended the Avocado “Bomb”. She’s had it 3 times in a row, so we felt that was a pretty strong recommendation. OMG, it was so delicious. Hand-cut Ahi tuna, crab salad, and homemade crispy wontons. Quite filling but Barbara hadn’t had carrot cake in a very long time and it was highly recommended, so we shared one. Never have we had a carrot cake like this. If Barbara could have stuck her face in the plate and licked up the crumbs she would have. From what we tried, this restaurant is “the bomb”.

When I get home I’m running to J Alexanders. YUM 😋
How am I going to try anything else? That meal was SO good!
