A CRAVING FOR CREPES

We’ve both loved crepes ever since we used to frequent the Magic Pan in California. So lucky for us there are several places nearby that serve this light and delicious item.

New restaurant: Cracked and Crepes

The first place we headed off to was Cracked and Crepes, which we thought had a very cute and descriptive name to let one know right away you were getting regular breakfast egg dishes plus crepes (and other pancake, waffle, French toast options). The atmosphere was nice with bright yellow booths and colorful wall ornaments.

The waiter was very nice about splitting the meals, so we split a Chicken Florentine crepe – delicious, with a great sauce – and an Ultimate Berry Crepe. The berries were juicy and sweet. The portions were large; both of us will either be skipping dinner or eating lightly tonight!

New restaurant: Whisk Crepes Café

To compare crepes, we drove to Legacy West in Plano and ordered at Whisk Crepes Café. We ordered the lunch special which consisted of a choice of savory crepe, a choice of either a plain butter crepe or a Nutella crepe and a drink. We chose the goat cheese and fig crepe, the Nutella crepe and an Americano. The person who took our order was, well… let’s say not cut out for customer service. She kept insisting that we couldn’t get an Americano, we had to get espresso even though our ordered drink was on the menu clearly. Finally, we gave up, ordered the espresso as part of the special and an extra Americano. What a letdown! The crepes were nowhere as tasty as those in the previous restaurant and we definitely won’t be back.

BTW, did you know that in France they celebrate with a Crepe Day on February 2nd, the same day we in the U.S. celebrate Groundhog Day. Hmm…celebrate delicious, paper thin crepes or a rodent. Who do you think is smarter?
