Do our whole lives revolve around food? Sometimes, it feels like it does but that’s ok. The ABC Life encourages us to not only try new things and see new places but try new foods and restaurants as well.

New restaurant: Whiskey Cake

Brisket reminds us of home. Growing up it was cooked and served on many a Sunday or our uncle, who loved to barbecue, would dish us up some wonderful brisket. We looked around for someplace, other than a bbq joint, that was serving brisket and Whiskey Cake fit the bill. The two brisket burgers we tried were the French Onion Burger and the Tavern Burger. The French Onion ingredients were brisket blend, whiskey braised onions, gruyere, garlic-thyme aioli, and beef jus. The Tavern ingredients were brisket blend, new American cheese, dill pickles, lettuce, tomato, and fancy sauce. We enjoyed both but the French Onion won first place unanimously.

New restaurant: The Brisket Bar

Unlike brisket, BISCUITS do not remind of us home, but that didn’t stop us from visiting The Brisket Bar, whose motto is “Brunch is Better on a Biscuit.” We love a good biscuit, and this place has them in abundance. In fact, individual bags of flour are lined up and they’re the first thing you see when you enter the restaurant. We tried the Hot Honey Biscuit (chicken and honey) and the Biscuit French Toast. While we liked them both, the Hot Honey Biscuit was the clear winner of the two. Every recipe on the menu has been developed in their home kitchen and reflects the family’s passion for biscuits. With six locations and plans for more, the popularity of The Biscuit Bar will continue to rise (pun intended).

But if you want to have the best of both worlds Barbara highly recommends going to Patina Green Market in McKinney on a Friday, no later than 11:30. You need to check the menu to see if they are serving the BOB which stands for Brisket on a Biscuit. She’s salivating as we write!
